Video subtitle translator

Video subtitle translator

Turn your video's subtitles into another language, then review every line before you publish. Keep the original text, switch to your translation, and style the version you want to export.

Subtitle translation requires Pro or Max. PAYG adds subtitle time to your current plan.

Your original video stays on your device. Audio is processed to generate subtitles, and subtitle text is processed for translation.

Translate video subtitles in three steps

Choose your video and generate the source subtitles. Review names, technical terms, and any words flagged for checking before you translate. Then pick a target language and translate the full subtitle track.

  1. Choose your video and generate the source subtitles. Review names, technical terms, and any words flagged for checking before you translate.
  2. Pick a target language and translate the full subtitle track. Pro and Max use subtitle time from your existing balance; each target language is a separate translation.
  3. Review the translated wording and switch between the original and translated tracks. Style the active version, then export your video or download its subtitle file.

Review the source before translating

Source subtitles are drafts. This workflow shows uncertain words so you can fix names, numbers, and technical terms before translation — a wrong word in the source becomes a wrong word in every language. Checking the original first keeps the translated track honest and avoids paying to translate text you were going to change anyway.

Keep the original and translated subtitles

Your original subtitles remain available after translation. If you edit the source text later, the translation is marked as needing an update. You decide when to translate again; changing a word does not silently start a new translation.

Only one subtitle track is shown in the video at a time. The original audio stays unchanged. Choose the original or translated track before exporting, and review the preview for line breaks, timing, and readability.

Export the version your audience needs

Export the active track as a video with the subtitles burned in, or download a subtitle file for your editing workflow on Pro or Max. The original audio is never replaced, and export and translation are billed separately: translating uses subtitle time, while exporting follows your plan's limits.

Translation questions

Can I translate video subtitles for free?

Subtitle generation can be started for free. Subtitle translation requires Pro or Max. Buying PAYG time adds usage to your current plan; it does not unlock translation on Free.

Can I upload an SRT file instead of a video?

This page starts with a local video. For an existing subtitle file, use TimedSubs' subtitle translator. File-only translation is a separate workflow.

Does this translate the voice in my video?

No. This workflow translates subtitle text and keeps the original audio. Review the translated track and export it with your video, or download a subtitle file with Pro or Max.

Can I show two languages at the same time?

You can switch between the original and translated subtitles. The current video export shows one selected track at a time. Simultaneous bilingual output is not available in this workflow yet.

How is translation time counted?

Each target language uses subtitle time based on the end of the source subtitle timeline, including gaps. You can download a delivered translation without paying for the same translation again. Review your plan and balance before starting.

Not sure the words are right? Review auto subtitles first. Choose how the text looks with subtitle styles or pick a readable subtitle font before export. Ready to compare plans? See Pro and Max.

Already have a subtitle file? TimedSubs translates subtitle files as a separate product.
