Subtitles for DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro

Both editors can generate captions on their own. The problem is what happens next: the text lands on your timeline and every correction means clicking into a caption box, one at a time, with the playhead in the wrong place.

Generate here instead. Fix the words the model wasn't sure about — they're already flagged — then export a subtitle file that drops straight onto your timeline with frame-accurate timing.

How to add subtitles in DaVinci Resolve

  1. 1

Generate and review the subtitles in the browser editor.

  2. 2

Choose SRT for native timing, or ASS / SSA when styling must travel with the file.

  3. 3

In Resolve, use File → Import Subtitle and place the file on a subtitle track.

How to auto-generate captions in Premiere Pro

  1. 1

Run the correction pass before the captions reach the edit timeline.

  2. 2

Export SRT, or VTT for a compatible newer caption workflow.

  3. 3

Use File → Import, then drag the subtitle asset onto a caption track.

Which file should you export?

Your editorExport thisWhy
DaVinci ResolveSRTImport via File → Import Subtitle. Resolve reads SRT natively and keeps your timing.
DaVinci Resolve (styled)ASS / SSACarries font, colour and position, so you don’t restyle inside Resolve.
Premiere ProSRTFile → Import then drag onto a caption track.
Premiere Pro (2024+)VTTNewer caption workflows read VTT with position data.
Anything elseTXT / JSONPlain transcript, or word-level timings for your own tooling.

Fix the words before they reach your timeline

Every word the model was unsure about is flagged before you export. Three flagged words take about six keystrokes to clear — Tab to the next one, Enter to accept. Fixing the same three inside a caption track means finding them first.

Day 0 limits

Generating and editing are free. Free exports are 720p with a small watermark, and reusable subtitle files require Pro at $9/month. PAYG adds usage only and never raises the 10-minute Free or 30-minute Pro per-video limit.

Questions about NLE subtitles

Do I need a plugin?

No. This runs in your browser; you export a file and import it like any other subtitle file.

Will the timing still line up?

Yes — timings are frame-accurate and exported at the same frame rate you uploaded.

Can I keep my caption styling?

Export ASS or SSA and font, colour and position come with it. SRT and VTT carry text and timing only.

Is it free?

Generating and editing are free. Free exports are 720p with a small watermark, and subtitle files need Pro ($9/month).
