Good subtitle design balances type size, weight, outline, contrast, safe area and line length. Compare three real presets on the same words, then carry the one that suits your video into the browser editor.
The best video subtitle design depends on the footage and where it will play. These examples make the subtitles look different without changing the words, so you can judge the visual tradeoffs directly.
Compare the same words in three styles
Each live preview draws from the product catalog and cycles through the same short sample cues. Pause all three to compare the same first cue in a stable frame. In your own video, replay a bright scene, a dark scene and a crowded frame before deciding. These sample previews enlarge the captions for comparison; the percentages below describe each preset on the actual editor canvas.

Six decisions behind readable subtitle design
Size
The presets size text relative to the canvas: Clean Lower Third uses 4.2% of canvas height, Creator Outline 6.6%, and Soft Box 4.4%. Larger text can help on a phone but leaves less room for a long phrase.
Weight
Clean Lower Third uses font weight 600. Creator Outline uses 800. Soft Box uses 650. A heavier face can stand out, but too much visual mass can cover a speaker's expression.
Outline
Creator Outline adds a 4px dark stroke around the letters. Clean Lower Third relies on a soft shadow, while Soft Box puts text on a dark panel. Compare edges against detailed backgrounds, not only a plain color.
Contrast
White lettering alone may disappear over clouds or a pale shirt. A dark stroke, shadow or padded panel creates separation as the footage changes. Soft Box uses a dark padded panel; test it on your brightest shot.
Safe area
Keep captions inside the visible frame and away from platform buttons, faces and important graphics. Recheck placement in the final landscape, square or vertical crop because a comfortable desktop position may be hidden on a phone.
Line length
Split a long thought at a natural pause and keep each cue short enough to read before the next arrives. Clean Lower Third explicitly caps its layout at 2 lines. Review generated line breaks before choosing a bolder preset.
Check the design on the real video
Open the selected preset in the browser editor, choose a local video, generate timed captions and correct uncertain words. Then preview a few different scenes. Check a narrow phone-size view as well as the intended export ratio. If a caption touches a face, an interface control or an important diagram, adjust its placement or shorten the line.
For a result with exact type, color, background and supported animation, export a burned-in video. SRT and VTT carry text and timing but leave appearance to the player. ASS can preserve supported styling, though it does not reproduce every Canvas motion. Keep a separate subtitle file if your destination needs switchable captions.
